Publications
“Fresh Paint” Spring, 2004 Florida Art Education Association (FAEA) Publication

I wrote an article entitled “Art and Chemistry” to showcase a cross-curriculum activity I developed for students at Lecanto High School in Citrus County, FL.

Students in my advanced ceramics classes partnered with the advanced chemistry students for a unique look at how art and science are connected. The exploration and behavior of copper carbonate (in the reduction and oxidation atmospheres in a kiln) and their individual characteristic results were examined. The chemistry students demonstrated the behavioral characteristics of amorphous solids (by heating corn syrup) to show similarity to the behavior of ceramic glazes.

“Fresh Paint” Vol. 24, Issue 2, p. 6-7, 2004, Florida Art Education Association (FAEA)

This article describes an event hosted by the St. Petersburg Museum of Fine Art and the “Chihuly Across Florida” project. The faculty of Lecanto School of Art (at Lecanto High School) and our students participated in this event.
